The Guildowns GP practice – which runs the NHS GP surgery on campus and three other GP practices in the local area – has taken a decision to suspend registration of new patients. They have told us they need to do this to continue to safely provide NHS services to their existing registered patients.

The Students’ Union and the University are working closely together with the local NHS authorities to provide clear guidance to new and returning students on how to register for a GP and access all necessary NHS services.

The good news is we have been given a concrete assurance by the local Clinical Commissioning Group (the CCG – responsible for ensuring access for all to GP services) that all students will have access to GP services when they arrive in Surrey.

University of Surrey Students will be able to register with one of the following GP Practices (the first two are closest to campus, but all are within a reasonable distance):

Woodbridge Hill Surgery

The NHS have also reassured us that anyone who has not yet registered with a local GP but who needs to see a doctor or a nurse can search online www.nhs.uk/service/search, call 0300 311 22 33 or attend the Walk in Centre at Woking Community Hospital, Heathside Road , Woking, Surrey, GU22 7HS .  This is a nurse-led service providing treatment for minor injuries and illnesses, open Monday-Sunday, 8.00am – 8.00pm. These services are available at any time – but are useful to have to hand until you have been able to register with one of the above practices.

You might also like to know that, alongside the services the NHS provides, the University Centre for Wellbeing is an additional service the University offers to help students with a wide range of advice and support covering all aspects of wellbeing while at University. The Centre for Wellbeing works closely with the NHS and other services to ensure students are given all the support needed to manage their personal wellbeing while at University.
